호서대학교 이향만 교수님(hmlee@office.hoseo.ac.kr)께서 정보를 주신 "제 6차 국제 스타인벡 학회" 보고와 2006년 국제 스타인벡 학회의 Call for Paper에 대한 정보입니다. 좋은 정보를 주신 이향만 교수님께 감사를 드립니다. ================================================= The Sixth International Steinbeck Congress 참가보고 2005년 6월 6일부터 9일까지 일본 교토에서 "John Steinbeck: Global Dimensions"이라는 주제 하에 <제 6차 국제 스타인벡 학회>가 열렸습니다. 미국, 일본, 한국, 중국, 인도, 슬로베니아, 등에서 온 70여명의 스타인벡 연구자들이 모인 이번 학회는 미국 스타인벡 학회와 일본 스타인벡 학회가 공동으로 주최한 뜻 깊은 모임이었습니다. 이번 학회에서 저는 (호서대학교 이향만 교수) "Disappearance of an Oriental Philosopher in the Movies of East of Eden"라는 제목의 논문을 발표했습니다. 아울러 한국, 미국, 일본 간에 스타인벡 연구 교류를 위한 진지한 논의를 나누었습니다. 내년 학회는 2006년 3월 22일부터 25일까지 Idaho주의 Sun Valley Resort에서 개최될 예정이라고 합니다. 특히 The New Steinbeck Society of America의 학회지 The Steinbeck Review 편집위원장인 Stephen Geroge 교수로부터 한국의 많은 학자들이 이 학회에 참석해 달라는 부탁을 받았습니다. 내년 학회의 큰 주제는 "Steinbeck and His Contemporaries"입니다. 그 내용을 아래에 영문으로 요약했으니 Steinbeck과 동시대 작가들의 비교 연구에 관심이 있는 분들이 많이 참여하시기 바랍니다. CALL FOR PAPERS Comparative studies on John Steinbeck and his peers within American letters are relatively few. This conference welcomes Steinbeck scholars, members of other author societies, and literature scholars and teachers in general to offer a critical view on Steinbeck in relation to any of his contemporaries - Hemingway, Faulkner, Fitzgerald, Cather, Wright, Lewis, Welty, Hurston, Stegner, O'Conner, London, and others. Comparative presentations are also invited on select authors- Mallory, Shakespeare, Twain, as well as on contemporary writers...
